Accommodation and Destitution

Support  Service

We provide support for people who are destitute and outside of the asylum
system in a number of different ways that are outlined below:

1) Men’s Project: We provide access to accommodation, financial
assistance, and support in getting back into the asylum system for men
who are destitute. The accommodation is in a B&B which is supportive of
project, where they have their own living space and a place to cook. This
stability allows the men to be able to work with our Housing Support
Worker and their solicitor to put in a fresh claim or further submission,
which allows them to get back into the system and receive accommodation
and financial support from Home Office. Starling Collective also provides
access to emergency accommodation for men who have recently been
granted refugee status and have been unable to find accommodation. We
then support them to secure suitable accommodation and offer financial
support where needed.

2) Women’s Project: As part of the Women’s project Choice Housing,
Hosford House and PPR provide accommodation and housing support to
four women who are outside of the asylum system. Starling Collective
provides these women with financial support and help them get back into
the asylum system or get their settlement status settled.

3 )Esther Giving Destitution Support: Through the help of regular donors
and the Esther Giving Platform, Starling Collective supports 7 people who
are destitute and have been outside the asylum system for a long period of
time. They receive £200 a month and we work with them and their
solicitors to get back into the asylum system. We supported 28 people
dealing with destitution, ranging from one-off support to regular or
ongoing accommodation and/or financial support.
