Ending Destitution

Our End Destitution project provides holistic Trauma Informed support for people who are destitute and outside of the asylum system and to vulnerable people who have recently been granted refugee status and find themselves homeless due to the housing crisis. Our partners are Christian Fellowship Church (CFC) and East Belfast Mission (EBM)

We provide access to accommodation, financial assistance, and support in getting back into the asylum system for people who are destitute. The  accommodation is in a 5 bed property owned by CFC which is supportive of project, where they have their own living space and a place to cook. This stability allows them to be able to work with our Housing Support Worker and their solicitor to put in a fresh claim or further submission, which allows them to get back into the system and receive accommodation and financial support from Home Office. Starling Collective also provides access to emergency accommodation for people who have recently been granted refugee status and have been unable to find accommodation. We then support them to secure suitable accommodation and offer financial support where needed.

The project also offers a range of Trauma Informed mental health support                                           that includes drumming and singing workshops, group art therapy, day trips,                                             cycling groups and is decided by the feedback from our community members.

Esther Giving Destitution Support: Through the help of regular donors and the                                  Esther Giving Platform, Starling Collective supports 7 people who are destitute                                        and have been outside the asylum system for a long period of time. They                                         receive £185 a month and we work with them and their solicitors to get back                                        into the asylum system.
